The Approach S60 is for golfers who want to see the whole hole on their wrist. Its defining feature is full colour CourseView mapping on a 1.2 inch sunlight-readable touchscreen, showing precise yardages to greens, hazards and doglegs on a map rather than as a list of numbers.

Our take
Maps and yardages
Garmin preloads more than 40,000 courses worldwide. GPS quickly finds your position and shows distances to the green, hazards and doglegs on full colour maps. Being able to see where a bunker sits relative to the landing area is especially helpful on unfamiliar courses.
On a course you play every week, the map view matters less, but on holidays and away days it can replace a course planner. Seeing the shape of a dogleg before the tee shot helps decide between driver and a shorter club.
Touchscreen and design
The 1.2 inch touchscreen is sunlight readable with a 240 x 240 resolution. The bezel material is listed as polymer or ceramic, and the watch takes Quick Fit 22 mm bands, which swap without tools. This version comes with a black silicone band. The case measures 46 mm across and weighs 90.7 g.
Interchangeable bands make it easy to switch from a sporty silicone strap on the course to something smarter for the office, which suits a watch meant to be worn all week.
Battery and extra profiles
Battery life is up to 10 hours in golf mode and up to 10 days in watch mode. Ten hours covers a round comfortably but leaves less margin than newer models. Outdoor profiles for skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, stand up paddleboarding and rowing make it a broader activity watch.
Alarm, calendar and stopwatch features are also listed.
If you play 36 holes in a day, carry a charger or a small power bank, since 10 hours may not stretch to a second round with GPS running.
S60 within the Approach range
The Approach S44 has a brighter AMOLED screen and 15 hours of GPS, with CourseView maps available through a membership. The S12 is the simple button model with 30 hours. The CT10 sensors work with the S60, according to Garmin's compatibility list, for automatic shot tracking. The G80 is the handheld with a launch monitor.
Who should look elsewhere
Golfers who want the longest battery life should choose the S12. Anyone who prefers a slimmer, lighter watch will find the S44 more comfortable for everyday wear.
Verdict
Buy the Approach S60 if full colour hole maps on a touchscreen, plus multi-sport profiles, are what you want from a Garmin. If battery life matters more, the Approach S12 is better, and for a slimmer watch with a brighter AMOLED display, the Approach S44.
