The TK700STi is for golfers who want 4K sharpness in a simulator and also plan to use the projector for films, sport and gaming. BenQ pairs native 4K HDR with a short throw lens and very low input lag at 1080p, which is a useful mix for a room that does more than golf.

In its favour

  • Native 4K resolution with HDR for sharp course graphics, as listed.
  • Input lag from 16 ms at 4K 60 Hz down to 4 ms at 1080p 240 Hz.
  • 1.2x zoom, auto vertical keystone and picture rotation ease set-up.

Good to know

  • Uses a lamp rather than a laser, so expect lamp changes over time.
  • 100 inch from 2 m needs more room depth than the Optoma short throws.

Our take

Throw and setup

BenQ states a 100 inch image from 2 m, with 1.2x zoom for flexibility. That is a longer throw than the Optoma short throws here, so the projector sits further back, which in a simulator often means mounting it behind or above the golfer. Auto vertical keystone and picture rotation adjustment help square up the image.

Response time

The listing quotes 16 ms at 4K 60 Hz and 4 ms at 1080p 240 Hz. For golf software, the 1080p figure is the one most setups will use, and 4 ms is among the lowest numbers stated in this comparison. Game and sound modes let you fine tune picture and audio.

Picture quality and lamp

Native 3840 x 2160 resolution, HDR, 3,000 ANSI lumens and 96% Rec.709 colour are listed. The extra detail helps with course graphics on a large screen if your PC can run the simulator software at 4K. The specs list a 240 W lamp, so this is not a laser model.

Expect to replace the lamp at some point if the projector runs for long sessions most weeks.

Smart features

Google certified Android TV with the Play store is built in, along with a 5 W chamber speaker and two HDMI 2.0b ports. For a dedicated golf bay these extras matter less, but they make the projector useful for films when you are not hitting balls. The listing notes product security updates were guaranteed until the end of 2024.

Compared with the alternatives

The BenQ TK710STi moves to a laser light source with 3,200 ANSI lumens and a similar 4 ms figure. The Optoma GT1080HDRx throws 120 inches from about 1.2 m with 8.4 ms response but is native 1080p. The TK700STi is the choice for 4K with a well documented throw.

Verdict

Buy the TK700STi if you want native 4K, very low input lag at 1080p and a known throw distance, and you have the room depth for 2 m. If lamp changes put you off, the BenQ TK710STi adds a laser source, and if your room is shallow, the Optoma GT2000HDR throws far shorter.
