The Wingman View is for golfers who began with an audio only GPS speaker and found themselves wishing they could glance at a number instead of pressing a button. Bushnell added a small LCD screen to the speaker body, so yardages and hazard distances are visible as well as spoken.

Our take

What it shows and says

The listing says the LCD screen gives distance information and music details. It can display up to six hazard distances per hole, and the speaker reads out front, centre and rear distances to the green. Custom audio bites are also listed, the short sound clips Wingman owners use on the first tee.

Unlike the Wingman HD, there is no mention of hole images or green shapes. Expect numbers on a small display rather than a map.

In daily use that means one glance at the speaker tells you the carry over a fairway bunker or the distance to reach a pond, without waiting for the voice to finish. Music and yardages share the same box, so the volume you choose for one also affects how clearly you hear the other.

Build and mounting

Amazon lists an IP54 rating, a lithium-ion battery and a weight of 651 g, with dimensions of 18.5 x 8.1 x 7.9 cm. The item highlights mention a remote control and a magnetic cart mount, so the unit can sit on a buggy bar while you control it from your pocket.

At around two thirds of a kilogram it is lighter than the Wingman HD and the Mileseey GeneSonic Pro, which helps if you clip it to a push trolley.

What the listing leaves out

This listing does not give battery life, the number of preloaded courses or the speaker output. The model number is 362210. If you need those figures, ask the seller before ordering.

Because the screen is small, golfers with weaker eyesight may still lean on the spoken callouts more than the display.

Where it sits in the range

The Bushnell Wingman 2 is the audio first option with a stated 14+ hour battery. The Wingman HD moves to a 3.5 inch colour touchscreen with hole and green views. The View is the middle ground: a screen for quick numbers, but simpler and lighter than the HD.

Verdict

Pick the Wingman View if you want visible yardages and hazard numbers without the weight or detail of a full colour map. Golfers who want to see hole shapes should look at the Wingman HD, and those who only need spoken distances and long battery will be happy with the Wingman 2.
