The GT2000HDR is for golfers fitting a simulator into a room with little depth. Optoma states a 100 inch image from just 1 m, so the projector can sit close to the screen, and it uses a laser light source so there are no lamps to replace in a unit that may run for hours each session.

Our take

Throw and placement

A 100 inch picture from 1 m is the shortest throw stated among the projectors in this comparison. In a simulator that usually means mounting it on the ceiling just in front of the hitting position, keeping it out of the swing path and reducing the shadow you cast on the screen.

The listing gives a minimum throw of 0.5 m and a maximum image size of 300 inches, so there is room to scale up if your bay allows.

Check the height of your ceiling as well as the depth of the room, because a projector this close to the screen also has to clear the top of your backswing.

Picture and brightness

Native resolution is 1920 x 1080, with support for 4K UHD and HDR input. Brightness is listed at 3,500 ANSI lumens, which suits a garage or spare room with some daylight. The 1080p 120 Hz mode helps keep motion smooth when the ball is in flight.

Connections and build

Two HDMI inputs, a 3.5 mm audio output and a USB port are listed, along with built-in audio. Optoma also calls the design eco-friendly. For a simulator PC and perhaps a games console, two HDMI ports are enough.

What the listing does not say

There is no input lag figure in this listing, only the 120 Hz refresh at 1080p. If fast response matters to you, compare it with the Optoma GT1080HDRx, which lists 8.4 ms. The listing also gives little detail on fan noise or zoom.

How it compares

The BenQ AH700ST is designed for golf and brighter at 4,000 lumens but does not list its throw. The BenQ TH671ST needs 1.5 m for 100 inches and uses a lamp. The GT2000HDR is the easiest pick when space is tight and you want a laser source.

Verdict

Choose the GT2000HDR if your room is short and you want a laser projector with a clearly stated throw. If golf specific screen calibration appeals, look at the BenQ AH700ST, and if a published low input lag figure matters most, the Optoma GT1080HDRx is the one to compare.
