Our take

Size and power

At 9.5 x 3.6 x 6 cm and 144 g, the A1-Slope slips into a trouser pocket. USB-C charging means no CR2 batteries to buy, and 40 rounds per charge means most golfers will top it up only a few times a season.

A small laser like this is easy to carry on a walking round, where every gram in a pocket is noticeable after 18 holes.

Slope and flag confirmation

Bushnell's patented slope compensation adjusts distances for elevation, and slope is switched on or off through the mode button. That is less obvious than an external switch, so check the display before a competition round.

PinSeeker with JOLT technology vibrates when the laser locks onto the flag. Bushnell states it ranges 350+ yards to a flag, with an overall measuring range of 5 to 1,300 yards and 6x magnification.

In the box

A BITE magnetic skin is included, so the rangefinder can still stick to a trolley or buggy frame. There is also a premium carry case, a USB-C charging cord and a manual. It is listed as water resistant.

The magnetic skin is a neat solution on such a small body, as it adds a mounting option without making the rangefinder itself bigger.

A1-Slope against the Tour V6 Shift and Voice Caddie L6

The Bushnell Tour V6 Shift adds an external slope switch and Visual Jolt, at a much heavier listed weight. The Tour V7 Shift adds a dual colour OLED and recall. The Voice Caddie L6 is similarly compact at 159 g with auto slope that switches off. The A1-Slope is the lightest of these and the only one with USB-C charging in its listing.

Who should look elsewhere

If you want an external switch that makes the slope status obvious, the Tour V6 Shift is clearer. Golfers who want GPS green data alongside the laser should look at the Mileseey GenePro G1.

Verdict

Buy the Bushnell A1-Slope if you want a tiny, rechargeable slope laser with JOLT confirmation and a magnetic skin. If an external slope switch is important, choose the Bushnell Tour V6 Shift, and for a similarly compact alternative from another brand, the Voice Caddie L6.
