The G6 is the GPS-only watch from Shot Scope, aimed at golfers who want a map of every hole on their wrist without paying a monthly fee. What sets it apart is that full hole maps, showing hazards and layups, come standard rather than being locked behind a membership as on some rivals.

Our take
Distances and course detail
The G6 gives dynamic front, middle and back distances to the green and front and carry figures for every hazard. Layup points and dogleg distances are included, and you can switch between yards and metres. Shot Scope lists more than 36,000 preloaded courses worldwide.
Carry distances to hazards are especially useful when deciding whether to lay up short of a ditch or go over it.
Full hole maps make strategy easier on courses you do not know, because you can see where a fairway bunker sits in relation to the landing area before you tee off.
App and subscriptions
Access to the Shot Scope app is free with no subscription. The listing does not describe automatic shot tracking for the G6, which is the main difference from the V5. If you want stats from tags in your clubs, the V5 is the model that includes them.
Build and what is missing
The colour display uses capacitive touch with push button control. In the box are a charger, a user guide and two straps, with a two year warranty. Amazon lists the item weight as 140 g, probably including packaging.
Battery life is not stated in the listing, which is a notable omission for a GPS watch. It is worth checking the manufacturer's details if you play long days.
Two straps in the box are a thoughtful touch, as you can swap colours or keep a spare for when one becomes grubby after a summer of rounds.
G6 compared with V5 and Garmin S12
The Shot Scope V5 adds tracking tags and Strokes Gained stats. The Garmin Approach S12 is simple with 30 hour GPS but does not mention full hole maps. The G6 sits between, with richer maps and a modern colour screen.
Verdict
Buy the Shot Scope G6 if you want full hole maps and hazard carry distances with no fees, and you do not need shot tracking. If you want stats from every shot, choose the Shot Scope V5, and if you value a long stated battery life, the Garmin Approach S12 is better.
